assessments that focus on how people see themselves, the tools I use focus on how other people see you, because their perceptions of you influence their actions. 1. The focus is on the current behavior not what a person has done in the past. 2. The emphasis is what a person actually sees and observes in another, not something that is subjective. 3. The goal is to deal with a number of different situations rather than a single type of situation. They are then grouped by style and asked to answer a series of questions about their preferences (i.e. ideal working environment). These are reported to the entire group for the purpose of increasing understanding. The exercises and questions chosen assist with the following four personal goals. 1. Understand Own Strengths and Weaknesses. Participants learn to identify the strengths of their style and understand that overuse of the strengths can lead to perceived negative attributes or weaknesses. 2. Understand How Your Style is Perceived by Others. By watching the natural reaction to different styles in the simulated exercises, participants will understand how they are perceived and how they judge others. You’ll learn to adapt your style to others by understanding how they perceive you, both positively and negatively. 3. Take Control of Your Own Growth. Hopefully once weaknesses are identified, participants can set goals to change destructive behaviors or at least learn to moderate to get needs met. . 4. Judge Less and Understand More. Once you identify the strengths of other styles, participants will be begin to appreciate differences and begin to see them as just different not as wrong or bad. |
